Hi! I’m Heather. I’m glad you’re here!

I’m a Jesus follower who cares about the Bible, engaging culture, and social justice.

Cultural engagement and social justice are buzzwords right now, but I want the church to do these things from a foundation of Scripture. I firmly believe that Scripture is the inerrant Word of God. It is trustworthy. We can build our lives on it.

If we are building our lives on Scripture, we will care about the poor, the immigrant, the oppressed, the suffering. We will even care about the oppressors. But we must begin with Scripture.

I am a hypocrite. I do not perfectly align myself with Scripture, I am tempted to retreat from the culture and I do not consistently pursue justice for the oppressed. I actually fail at this quite often. But because Jesus is who He is, I must keep pursuing. This blog is where I share what I am learning in the hopes that we can learn together.

A bit more about me personally. I live in Upstate New York with my husband, Andrew, along with our son and my dog. Andrew reminds me frequently that she is my dog. I may live in Yankee territory now, but I’m a Texan to the depths of my soul. Tacos and brisket and wide open skies are my happy place. I love running and CrossFit, but I’ll try not to be annoying about it. And I drink coffee like it should be: strong and black with none of that cream and sugar nonsense.

I’ve been reading books in one sitting since I was in grade school. My mom taught me to love reading before she could get me to brush my hair. (That one took a while, bless her.) I’ve always written for myself through journalling, and I loved to write for school. But the idea of being able to write for an audience was always too big and too impossible. But here I am, doing it anyway.

I’ll post here once a week. I won’t chase every headline, but I will talk about current events in light of the Bible. I’ll also just write about the Bible. It’s got a lot to say, y’all.

So stick around, share some thoughts in the comments, email me, send the article to a friend or five. If you subscribe, you’ll get each post in your inbox, plus the occasional exclusive content. I’m so glad you’re here.
